Easter

1The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying:2This month will be the beginning of the months; for you this will be the first in the months of the year.3Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: On the tenth of this month let each take a lamb according to the families of the parents, one lamb per family.4But if the family is so small that it is not enough to eat the lamb, then he and his immediate neighbor to his house will take one according to the number of people; according to the eating of each man, you will make the account on the lamb.5The animal will be without defect, a one-year-old male; you will take it from sheep or goats.6And you will keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, and the entire congregation of the people of Israel will immolate it between the two afternoons.7And they will take some of the blood, and they will put it on the two posts and on the lintel of the houses where they will eat it.8And that night they will eat meat roasted on the fire, and unleavened bread; they will eat it with bitter herbs.9You shall not eat anything of it raw, nor cooked in water, but roasted on the fire; his head with his feet and his innards.10You shall leave nothing of it until morning; and what remains until morning, you will burn in the fire.11And you shall eat it like this: with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you will eat it hastily; it's easter#Lv. 23.5; Nm. 9.1-5; 28.16; Dt. 16.1-2.of Jehovah.12For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and I will execute my judgments on all the gods of Egypt. I Jehovah.13And the blood will be a sign for you in the houses where you are; and I will see the blood and I will pass over you, and there will be no plague on you when I strike the land of Egypt.

14And this day will be in memory of you, and you will celebrate it as a solemn feast for Jehovah during your generations; by perpetual statute you will celebrate it.15Seven days you will eat unleavened bread; and so on the first day you shall make sure that there is no leaven in your houses; for whoever eats leaven from the first day to the seventh, shall be cut off from Israel.16On the first day there will be a holy convocation, and likewise on the seventh day you will have a holy convocation; no work will be done in them, except only that you prepare what each one has to eat.17And you shall keep the feast of unleavened bread,#Ex. 23.15; 34.18; Lv. 23.6-8; Nm. 28.17-25; Dt. 16.3-8.for on this very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore you shall keep this commandment in your generations by perpetual custom.18In the first month you shall eat unleavened bread, from the fourteenth day of the month in the evening until the twenty-first of the month in the evening.19For seven days no leaven will be found in your houses; for anyone who eats leavened food, both a foreigner and a native of the country, will be cut off from the assembly of Israel.20You shall not eat anything leavened; in all your rooms you will eat unleavened bread.

21And Moses summoned all the elders of Israel, and said to them, Bring out and take lambs for your families, and sacrifice the Passover.22And take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that will be in a basin, and anoint the lintel and the two posts with the blood that will be in the basin; and none of you go out of the gates of his house until morning.23For the LORD will pass by wounding the Egyptians; and when he sees the blood on the lintel and on the two posts, Jehovah will pass through that door, and he will not allow the wounder to enter your houses to strike.#He. 11.28. 24You shall keep this by statute for yourselves and for your children forever.25And when you enter the land that Jehovah will give you, as he promised, you will keep this rite.26And when your children say to you: What is this rite of yours?27you will answer: It is the sacrifice of the passover of the Lord, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. Then the people bowed and worshiped.28And the children of Israel went and did promptly thus, as Jehovah had commanded Moses and Aaron.

Death of the firstborn

29And it came to pass that at midnight the Lord smote all the firstborn#Ex. 4.22-23.in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in prison, and all the firstborn of the animals.30And Pharaoh arose that night, he and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt, because there was not a house where there was not a dead person.31And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said to them, Come out from among my people, you and the children of Israel, and go, serve the Lord, as you have said.32Also take your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and be gone; and bless me too.

33And the Egyptians pressed on the people, hastening to drive them out of the land; for they said: We are all dead.34And the people brought their dough before it was leavened, their masses wrapped in their sheets on their shoulders.35And the children of Israel did according to the commandment of Moses, asking the Egyptians for jewels of silver, gold, and clothing.36And Jehovah gave favor to the people before the Egyptians, and they gave them whatever they asked for; thus they despoiled the Egyptians.#Ex. 3.21-22.

The Israelites leave Egypt

37The children of Israel set out from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, not counting the children.38There also went up with them a great multitude of all sorts of people, and sheep, and many cattle.39And they baked unleavened cakes from the dough that they had taken out of Egypt, since it had not risen, because when the Egyptians drove them out, they had not even had time to prepare food.

40The time that the children of Israel lived in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.#Mrs. 15.13; A need. 3.17. 41And after the four hundred and thirty years, on the same day all the hosts of the Lord came out of the land of Egypt.42It is a night to keep for Jehovah, for having brought them out of the land of Egypt in it. This night must be kept for Jehovah by all the children of Israel in their generations.

43And Jehovah said to Moses and Aaron: This is the ordinance of the Passover; no stranger will eat of it.44But every human servant bought with money shall eat of it, after you have circumcised him.45The foreigner and the hired hand shall not eat of it.46It shall be eaten in a house, and you shall not carry any of that meat out of it, nor shall you break its bone.#Nm. 9.12; Sal. 34.20; Jn. 19.36. 47All the congregation of Israel will do it.48But if a foreigner dwells with you, and wishes to celebrate the Passover for Jehovah, let every male be circumcised, and then he will celebrate it, and he will be like one of your nation; but no uncircumcised shall eat of it.49The same law will be for the native, and for the foreigner who will dwell among you.

50So did all the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.51And on that same day the Lord brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies.
